BROOKLINE, Mass. – Bringing two runs across during the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings on Saturday, the Northeastern baseball team successfully erased its 6-2 and 8-6 deficits against James Madison despite not having the answer to the Dukes' 11th-inning run as the Huskies narrowly lost, 9-8, on Senior Day at Friedman Diamond.

Scott Holzwasser, Jake Rosen and Cam Walsh each contributed three hits apiece for Northeastern (23-26, 9-11 CAA), which outhit the visitors, 14-12. Holzwasser reached base five times to pace the Huskies while Rosen knocked his team co-leading, fifth triple of the season during the third inning.

Walsh enjoyed the best Senior Day performance among Northeastern's eight pregame honorees, connecting on the two-RBI single that tied the game at 8-8 during the bottom of the sixth inning. The NU outfielder prolonged the Huskies' 11th-inning chances by guiding another two-out hit to center field, pushing the potential game-tying run (Holzwasser) into scoring position.

After his seven-pitch first inning had preluded his one-two-three second inning, Sean Mellen ran into trouble against James Madison (30-20, 10-10 CAA), which rallied for three runs during the third and fourth innings – all charged to the lefty starter. Mellen lasted three and one-third innings during his shortest start of the season, firing six strikeouts yet walking four.

Northeastern jumped out to the 2-0 lead during the second inning, where the Huskies dropped two bunts for hits and a third bunt by John Mazza that brought home a run.

Following the Dukes' string of six unanswered runs, Northeastern halved its deficit to 6-4 with the help of David Willis's dropped fly in right field that scored two unearned runs off the bat of Ian Fair. The Huskies then brought eight batters to the plate during the fifth inning, knotting the game at 6-6 via Matt Marsili's bases-loaded wild pitch.

Brandon Dufualt and Andrew Misiaszek combined to throw five and one-third scoreless late-innings of relief before JMU made its move during the 11th inning. With Matt Dipasupil running on contact from second base, Kyle Hayes' ground ball found the deepest part of the infield up the middle, prompting two NU throws to first base and home plate as Dipasupil's aggression paid off for the Dukes.

Mellen and Misiaszek both registered their 200th career strikeouts at Northeastern during Saturday's contest, becoming the 13th and 14th members to eclipse the milestone during program history.
