BROOKLINE, Mass. – Rallying behind Scott Holzwasser's leadoff double during its final trip to the plate on Sunday, the Northeastern baseball team matched ninth-inning runs with James Madison as the Huskies walked off as 5-4 winners, clinching the CAA series with Corey DiLoreto's sacrifice fly to right field.

With the victory, Northeastern (24-26, 10-11 CAA) exited the weekend one game clear of the postseason qualification line, moving into a four-way tiebreaker for third place with James Madison (30-21, 10-11 CAA), UNCW and William & Mary. Entering the final week of the regular season, third through eighth place in the CAA standings are separated by just one game with the top six teams securing berths to the conference tournament.

Carrying the 4-3 lead into the ninth inning, the Huskies were eyeing another record-extending save from Andrew Misiaszek, despite Brady Harju delivering the game-tying home run for the Dukes with one out and the bases clear.

Holzwasser opened Northeastern's half of the ninth inning with his second double of the game, knocking Dan Goggin's 2-1 pitch to the right field wall. Jeff Costello pushed Holzwasser to third base with a bunt single along the third base line, stealing second base before an out had been recorded.

Cam Walsh followed by directing a chopper to the mound, which happened to catch Holzwasser in a rundown between third base and home. After Costello and Walsh had wisely moved up into scoring position, DiLoreto lifted a shallow fly to right field that was deep enough to score Costello as the game's winning run.

Holzwasser co-led the Huskies with three hits as did Ian Fair, who drove in the first of Northeastern's three unearned runs during the fourth inning. Farrell accounted for the other two runs, driving a two-RBI double to left field that put NU in front, 4-1.

Kyle Murphy set career highs in strikeouts (eight) and pitches thrown (109) during his five-inning start, which was denied a decision by James Madison's comeback. Fifth-year senior Tyler Brown tossed two and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief, striking out four batters while preserving the Huskies' lead through the duration of his outing.
