HARRISONBURG, Va. – Smacking seven of its 11 hits for extra bases on Thursday, the fourth-seeded Northeastern baseball team survived its first elimination game at the 2019 CAA tournament, winning a 9-7 slugfest against sixth-seeded James Madison at the Dukes' Veterans Memorial Park to remain among the final five teams in contention for the league title.

With the victory, Northeastern (27-28, 12-12 CAA) will play its next elimination game on Friday, May 24, at 11 a.m. against the lowest remaining seed of Thursday's two winner's semifinal losers. The Huskies' road back to the championship round would also include a second elimination game on Friday at 3 p.m.

Like during Wednesday's tournament opener, Northeastern scored two first-inning runs three batters into its first offensive inning. After Cam Walsh had drawn a five-pitch, leadoff walk, Ian Fair placed a two-base single into right center, setting the stage for Jake Farrell to knock a two-RBI double down the left field line.

James Madison (31-26, 11-13 CAA) answered back with three runs across the next two innings, ending David Stiehl's start prematurely after two and two-thirds innings. Brady Harju hit a solo home run during the second inning to halve the Huskies' lead before the Dukes spurred a two-out rally during the third inning, benefitting from three walks and Matt Dipasupil's RBI single.

Northeastern regained the 4-3 lead during the fourth inning, receiving three consecutive leadoff hits. With Corey DiLoreto at second base following the first of his two doubles, Jeff Costello ripped an RBI triple to the right field corner, scoring four pitches later with Ryan Solomon's RBI single.

DiLoreto's second double was the highlight hit of the Huskies' three-run fifth inning. The 2019 CAA All-Rookie Team selection pushed Farrell across the plate with his 10th two-bagger of the season, taking third base on Costello's RBI groundout and scoring on Spenser Smith's sacrifice bunt.

Pitching in relief of Stiehl, Sam Jacobsak kept JMU quiet until the sixth inning. There, Fox Semones capped the Dukes' two-out rally with his two-RBI single that trimmed Northeastern's lead to 7-5.

Ian Fair and DaVonn Griffin traded two-run home runs during the eighth inning while Andrew Misiaszek collected the final six outs for the Huskies, earning his 11th save of the season and the 29th of his collegiate career.
