BOSTON – Coming off a 5-2 victory against Connecticut on the road, the No. 12 Northeastern men's hockey team (12-5-2, 7-4-1 Hockey East) looks ahead to a Monday night non-conference clash with the Bentley Falcons (8-10-1, 6-9-0 Atlantic Hockey). Puck drop is set for 7 p.m., with the game being broadcast on NESN.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1. Scouting Bentley – Returning to Matthews Arena for the first time in 2020, the Huskies are set to open their second-half home run against the Bentley Falcons on Monday, Jan. 6. The Monday night meeting between Northeastern and Bentley marks the first time the two programs have met on the ice since the 2017-18 campaign, when the Huskies bested the Falcons, 6-1, at home. Heading into the clash, Northeastern and Bentley are locked at four wins and four losses each, with three meetings ending in a tie. With a win on Monday, the Huskies would remain unbeaten by the Falcons since the 2016-17 season and would gain the 5-4-3 advantage in the series.
To close out the first half, Bentley took on Sacred Heart at home, dropping a 4-0 result to the Pioneers before splitting the series with a 3-2 win the following night. Sophomore forward Jakov Novak currently leads the Falcons in scoring, posting 19 points across 19 contests off 11 goals and eight assists. In Bentley's 3-2 victory over Sacred Heart, Novak posted a team-high two points off a pair of goals and a +2 rating. Between the pipes, Aidan Pelino has served as the primary netminder for the Falcons, appearing and starting in 11 contests for Bentley. In his 11 starts, Pelino has accumulated a 3.10 GAA and a .883 save percentage. Additionally, sophomore Fraser Kirk has seen considerable minutes in goal, appearing in eight games and making seven starts. Kirk has recorded a 2.06 GAA and a .918 save percentage so far this season.
2. Going streaking – Senior
Ryan Shea and junior
Zach Solow have been on career-high point streaks through the midway mark. Shea, a Milton, Mass. native, recently extended his point streak while on the road at UConn, picking up an assist to move his assist and point streak to 10 consecutive contests. With a pair of goals last night, Naples, Fla. native Solow reached a career-high eight game point streak.
3. Solow on the dot – A force on the faceoff, junior
Zach Solow currently ranks first in the conference and ninth in the nation in faceoff wins with 212. Friday night, Solow led the team on the dot, winning 15-of-9 faceoffs in the contest with UConn.
