ALBANY, N.Y. – Northeastern women's basketball assistant coach
Whitney Edwards has been named the head coach at The College of Saint Rose, as announced on Monday.
Â
Edwards assisted on Northeastern head coach
Kelly Cole's staff during the previous three seasons, co-leading the Huskies to national postseason appearances via the 2018 Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) and the 2019 WNIT.
Â
"I am thrilled for Whitney as she becomes the head coach at Saint Rose," said Cole. "This is a great next step in her coaching career and I believe she will be very successful there. I am appreciative of all the hard work she has committed to building our program at Northeastern."
Â
With Edwards on the Huskies' bench, Northeastern's backcourt vaulted to the top of the CAA, twice leading the league in 3-point field goal percentage (2017-18, 2018-19). Ball control numbers peaked during the Huskies' run to the 2019 WNIT, during which NU posted the league's second highest assists average (15.1) and assist-to-turnover ratio (0.89) against prime competition.
Â
On an individual level, Edwards also played a key role in the positional development of two 1,000-point scoring guards,
Jess Genco and
Shannon Todd.
Â
Edwards is on track to graduate from Northeastern this June with her master's degree in leadership with a concentration in sports and social change.
