BOSTON - Northeastern's
Sam Jacobsak has signed a Major League Baseball contract with the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Jacobsak is a 6-foot-5 inch right-handed pitcher from Milton, Mass., and becomes the first Husky to sign this season.
"I'm very excited for Sam (Jacobsak) to get this opportunity," said head coach
Mike Glavine. "He's worked very hard the last three years to put himself in this position. He was off to a great start this year before the season was halted."
Jacobsak went 2-1 on the season and finished third in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with 25 strikeouts over 24.2 innings pitched. He ranked 10th in the CAA with a 3.65 earned run average and was third in the league by averaging 6.2 innings pitched per start. He tossed 8.0 scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over South Florida (Feb. 22) and fanned seven.
"It's sad to leave Northeastern after a year like this, being stopped right when the team was just starting to get on a role, but the end goal is to be a Major League Baseball player and it felt like the right time to pursue that dream," said Jacobsak. "I want to thank the coaching staff and my teammates, and wish them the best moving forward."
For his career, Jacobsak struck out 81 in 73.2 innings pitched and walked just 39.
