BOSTON - The Northeastern baseball team produced one of its best years in the classroom, earning a program-best 3.389 team grade point average in the spring and a cumulative GPA of 3.239 for the 2019-20 academic year to receive the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Ryan Cervone and
Ian Fair each posted a perfect 4.000 GPA for the Huskies in the spring term.
"I am very proud of the accomplishments our student-athletes performance in the classroom," said head coach Mike Glavine. "As we know this was a difficult year, but the team remained focused and committed to representing Northeastern and our program in all the best ways possible. This is a well-deserved honor and I am excited for them to be recognized for their hard work."
Northeastern was one of four Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) teams to earn this distinction. The Huskies were joined by Hofstra, UNC Wilmington and William and Mary.
The ABCA honors high school and college programs coached by ABCA members that post a cumulative GPA over a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year.
Northeastern won 10 of its final 12 games in 2020 before the cancellation of the season. The Huskies reached No. 11 in the RPI rankings, the highest-rated team outside of the southeast and west coast.
