BOSTON – Led by a season-high 20 points from
Tyreek Scott-Grayson, the Northeastern men's basketball team (6-5) trimmed a 17-point deficit all the way down to four with 6:50 to play, but couldn't complete the comeback as Davidson (7-2) received 35 points from Foster Loyer in a 79-69 victory over the Huskies on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena.
Â
Loyer had 19 points in the first half before added another 16 in the second half, finishing the day 10-of-18 overall and 8-of-12 from three. He was aided by 23 points from Hyunjung Lee (9-of-18 from the floor) for a Wildcat team that shot 49% overall and 43% from beyond the arc.
Â
Scott-Grayson, who added six rebounds and five assists, led four Huskies in double-figures, joined by
Nikola Djogo (15 points; five rebounds),
Jason Strong (10 points, three rebounds, three assists), and
Chris Doherty (10 points, six rebounds). NU was 46% from the field and 42% from three, hitting 10 three-pointers for the second time this season.
Â
• Davidson shot 45% from the floor in the opening half thanks to a 7-of-11 showing for Loyer, who dropped 19 points in 16 minutes of action. The Wildcats used a 16-1 run to open up a 14-point lead over the Huskies eight minutes into the game.
Â
• Davidson led by as many as 17 in the opening half before Northeastern began chipping away, led by 12 first half points from Scott-Grayson to knock the deficit down to 11 at the break. NU shot 39% (11-of-28) overall in the half.
Â
• The Wildcats maintained its double-digit advantage through the first 10 minutes of the second half before Northeastern began to battle back, using an 8-0 run capped by a Djogo steal and slam to make it 57-53 with 7:44 left.
Â
• Loyer, though, wouldn't be denied, scoring 14 of Davidson's final 19 points down the stretch, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the line to keep the Wildcats out in front.
