Belvit Breaks NU All-Time Record at UConn Invitational

STORRS, Conn. – 
Erica Belvit broke Northeastern's all-time hammer throw record with a mark of 205 feet, 6.1 inches to lead Northeastern on the final day of the UConn Spring Invitational. NU's previous hammer throw record marked 204 feet, 7.9 inches, also held by Belvit.
 
Trinity Cardillo posted the seventh-best mark in NU history in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 171 feet, 4.7 inches, while Monae Cooper threw a distance of 179 feet, 3 inches.
 
Leeyan Redwood took first place in the women's discus throw with a mark of 139 feet, 3 inches and in the shot put with a distance of 45 feet, 8.8 inches. Madeleine Duchaussee also earned a season-best in the discus throw with a mark of 114 feet and in the shot put (40 feet, 1.5 inches).

Kaitlyn Cavallaro earned a personal-best in the javelin throw with a mark of 117 feet, 11.75 inches, while Caroline Afonso earned a personal-best in the javelin (91 feet, 3.7 inches) and in the shot put (36 feet, 10.1 inches). Kennedee Cox notched a personal-best in the long jump event with a distance of 18 feet, 6.8 inches, while Melissa Purcell earned a mark of 10 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault event.
 
On the track, Azza Borovicka-Swanson earned a personal-best in the women's 5000-meter run with a time of 18.01.11, while Madison Neuner clocked a time of 18:34.01. Cox also finished in fourth place in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.62, as Sarah Petersen clocked a time of 5:01.94 in the 1500-meter run.
 
At the Raleigh Relays, Max Spencer ran the ninth-fastest time in NU history in the men's 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 1:50.51. Nicholas Young also earned a personal-best in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.05, while Pierre Sylvain followed shortly after earning a personal-best time of 1:53.95. Tessa McClain ran a personal-best in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.49, while Lucinda Shotts clocked a time of 2:14.16.

The Huskies will be back in action on Saturday, April 3 at UMass.
