PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Melanie Weber scored the game winning goal to lead Northeastern (2-5, 0-1 CAA) in a 2-1 overtime victory against Providence (1-6, 1-5 Big East) at Lennon Family Field on Thursday.
Cailin Hart gave the Huskies the lead in the first quarter when she scored her second goal of the season off a penalty corner shot that was inserted by
Angela Connolly. Both of her goals this season have been scored off of penalty corners. Connolly now leads the team in assists with three.
Northeastern held the lead until Providence tied it up with a goal late in the fourth quarter. Three minutes into overtime, Weber scored the game winning goal as she drove into the circle and sent a shot into the corner of the cage.
Erin Savage held Providence to one goal, making three saves on the Friars' four shots on goal and three corners.
Olivia Ward's long ball to Niamh Gowing on a breakaway in the fourth quarter led to Providence's lone goal.
Northeastern will continue CAA competition as they head to Drexel on Friday, April 9 at 4 p.m.
