HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Lauren Rowe scored the game winning goal and added an assist to lead Northeastern (3-6, 1-2 CAA) to their first conference win of the season over Hofstra (3-7, 0-2 CAA) on Sunday at Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.
Hofstra scored first, but the Huskies responded in the second with a goal from
Caroline Sweeney to even the score.
Lauren Rowe released the initial shot from the top of circle as Sweeney deflected the ball over the goalkeeper to score her second goal of the weekend.
Rowe then put the Huskies up 2-1 with a penalty stroke goal late in the third quarter. Rowe has scored three of her five goals this season on penalty strokes.
Cassie Brazinsky secured the win for Northeastern when she stole the ball just inside the circle from a Hofstra defender, giving the Huskies' a 3-1 lead. Brazinsky is now tied for third on the team in goals, with two.
Hofstra's lone goal was scored by Cami Larsson with an assist from Djuna Slort.
Northeastern returns to Dedham Field next week to close out their regular season schedule with CAA rivals William & Mary on Friday at 1 p.m. and James Madison on Sunday at noon.
