HARRISONBURG, Va. – Senior
Cameron Dickson won the men's 10,000 meters and broke the CAA Championship meet record with a personal-best time of 29:55.50 while graduate student
Erica Belvit claimed first place in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 198 feet, 11 inches to lead the Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams on their first day of competition at the CAA Championships, hosted by James Madison at Sentara Park.
Freshman
Savion Thompson won the men's long jump with a career-high mark of 23 feet, 1.75 inches to add another top finish for the Huskies.
Sophomore
Dominique Biron earned a third-place finish in the women's long jump with a personal-best mark of 19 feet, 0.75 inches. Biron won three out of the four heptathlon events on the first day of competition and will return tomorrow to compete in the remaining events.
Sophomore
Liam Landau placed fourth in the men's javelin with a career-high mark of 164 feet, 4 inches.
The Huskies had multiple athletes finish the preliminaries with championship qualifying marks. Freshman
Tessa McClain won the first heat of the women's 1500 meters with a time of 4:43.12 and will advance to the finals on Saturday. Junior
Michelle Nkoudou finished first in heat one of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.14, securing a spot in the finals on Saturday
Sophomore
Sydney Robinson placed ninth overall in the preliminaries of the women's 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 58.32, qualifying for the finals. Senior
Khailah Griffin will compete in the women's 100-meter dash finals tomorrow after placing seventh in the preliminaries with a time of 11.78.
Junior
Lucinda Shotts ran an 800-meter time of 2:17.30, placing eighth and qualifying for the finals on Saturday.
Northeastern will return for day two of competition at the CAA Championships on Saturday.
