BOSTON – The Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams will be in action this weekend at the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Friday. The Huskies have several competitors trying to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in Jacksonville, Fla., May 27-29.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- Last Time Out: David Adams was named 2021 CAA Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet after winning four gold medals, including sweeping the 110- and 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.02 in the 110mH and a time of 51.96 in the 400mH. Dominique Biron earned the meet's Most Outstanding Field Athlete after setting the school record in the heptathlon with a score of 5,137 points. Alexander Korczynski posted a CAA Championship meet record with a time of 8:49.71 to win the men's 3000-meter steeplechase. Cameron Dickson broke the meet record in the men's 10,000 meters with a personal-best time of 29:55.50. Michelle Nkoudou won the women's 100-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 14.10. Erica Belvit claimed first place in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 198 feet, 11 inches. The men's team won a league-best sixth consecutive championship (291 points) and the Huskies finished fourth in the women's competition (97 points).
- IC4A/ECAC Championships: At the 2019 IC4A/ECAC Championships, the Huskies placed fourth overall out of 44 teams in the men's competition with 35 points while the women's placed fifth out of 45 teams with 40 points. Korczynski led the men with second-place time of 8:53.85 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Erica Belvit earned bronze in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 201 feet, 2.57 inches. Leeyan Redwood also claimed a third-place finish in the women's shot put with a mark of 46 feet, 8.63 inches. The Huskies had five athletes qualify for the NCAA East Preliminaries, including Adams, Belvit and Korczynski.
- Husky Highlights:
- Dominique Biron broke the Northeastern's all-time heptathlon record with her performance of 5,137 points at the CAA Championships. She previously set the record earlier in the season at the UMass Multi-Meet with a score of 5,136 points. The sophomore also earned a runner-up finish in the women's high jump with a mark of five feet, five inches and a third-place finish in the women's long jump with a personal-best mark of 19 feet, 0.75 inches.
- David Adams' personal-best time of 14.02 earned him a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. The graduate student also earned gold medals in the 400-meter hurdles (51.96), 4x100 relay (40.63) and the 4x400 relay (3:15.03). Adams recently broke Northeastern's 400-meter hurdles record at the Virginia Challenge with a time of 51.17, clocking the fastest mark in the CAA this spring.
- Erica Belvit has broken Northeastern's school record in the women's hammer throw three times this season. Most recently, Belvit threw a personal-best distance of 219 feet, 6.65 inches at the UConn Northeast Invite. At the CAA Championship, Belvit earned a gold medal in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 198 feet, 11 inches.
