BOSTON -
After winning its first-ever Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship, Northeastern (36-10, 20-3 CAA) earned the CAA's NCAA automatic bid and will travel to the NCAA Fayetteville Regional as the No. 3 seed to take on No. 2 seed Nebraska (31-12 Big Ten) on Friday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN3. Top-ranked Arkansas (46-10, 22-8 SEC) earned the No. 1 overall seed and will serve as the host, taking on the No. 4 seed NJIT (26-22, 23-17 America East) on Friday at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN3.

The Huskies won their first-ever CAA tournament title on Sunday in dramatic fashion as the tournament's Most Outstanding Player Ben Malgeri homered in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the score at 10-10, and Max Viera hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Northeastern past UNCW, 11-10. This is the second NCAA Regional for the Huskies in the last three years after earning an at-large bid in 2018 (no tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19). Northeastern is making its ninth overall appearance in the NCAA tournament and made one College World Series in 1966.

This will be the first meeting between Nebraska and Northeastern on the diamond. The Huskers earned the automatic bid after winning the Big Ten championship and are 11-2 over their last 13 games. Nebraska is competing in its third NCAA Regional in the last five years.

Arkansas won the SEC regular season and tournament titles, and did not lose a single series this season. NJIT was declared the America East tournament champion after rained force the cancellation on the final day and will compete in its first-ever NCAA Regional.
