PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jan Berend led the No. 5 Northeastern varsity eight crew to an open-water victory over No. 8 Brown University early Saturday morning securing the Dreissigacker Cup for the first time since 2017.
Jeremy Newton stroked the second varsity eight to their fifth victory ending the regular season undefeated while
Karim Kane streamlined the third varsity eight for the weekend sweep.

With a wide margin between the two crews the Huskies varsity eight crossed the finish line 5.7 seconds ahead of the Bears, with
Maggie Sweeden directing them to their fastest time of the season. The undefeated second varsity eight boat accelerated early in the race to push past Brown University setting their highest tempo of the season. Finishing off the racing day, the Huskies third varsity eight took off strong from the lineup and held an open-water advantage over the Bears for the entirety of the race reaching the finish line 9.2 seconds ahead of the Brown University crew, clocking in their season high race time.
Northeastern crews were victorious in 14 of their 16 races they faced during the 2020-21 regular season competition and gear up to head into the IRA Championships on May 28 after a successful regular season.
