Late Run Sends Charleston Past Northeastern, 81-63

CHARLESTON, S.C. – In a four-point game with less than five minutes to play, the College of Charleston (11-9, 3-5) went on a 17-2 run over the next three minutes to shut the door on the Northeastern men's basketball team (6-15, 0-10) on Saturday afternoon at TD Arena, 81-63.

Nikola Djogo led the Huskies with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting as the visitors shot 46% on the day (21-of-46) and 6-of-16 from three. Shaquille Walters also reached double figures with 13 points (5-of-11 from the floor) while Jason Strong and Quirin Emanga added nine and eight points, respectively.

John Meeks dropped 22 for the Cougars, which snapped a five-game losing skid to the Huskies with three players in double figures. CofC shot 49% on the afternoon (30-of-61) and 6-of-15 from three and getting 29 points off turnovers.

• Neither team would give an inch in the opening half, with the lead getting no higher than four points on either side with seven ties and 10 lead changes.

• Djogo led the way for the visitors with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting (2-of-3 from three) for a Northeastern squad that shot 61% from the floor (14-of-23) and 5-of-7 from deep.

• At the other end, Charleston shot 15-of-34 overall and 4-of-8 from three in the opening 20 minutes, led by 12 points from Smith (3-of-5).

• Northeastern stayed within striking distance for much of the second half, never letting the deficit get above seven until the big Charleston run down the stretch that ballooned the Cougar lead to double digits late in the game.

The Huskies will return home for a pair of games next week, beginning with James Madison on Thursday at 7 p.m. on FloHoops. Tickets are available by visiting NUHuskies.com/tickets.
