2022 Baseball Alumni Report - 13 Huskies in the MLB System

Two Huskies see postseason action on the mound.

BOSTON – A total of 13 former Husky baseball players saw action in the 2022 season in the Major League Baseball system, highlighted by three Huskies in the big leagues, two of which saw postseason action.

Aaron Civale (2014-16) – SP – Cleveland Guardians
  • Made 20 starts for Cleveland on the year with a record of 5-6.
  • Pitched 97 innings with an ERA of 4.92, striking out 98 batters while waking only 22.
  • Made his career postseason debut against the New York Yankees, striking out Aaron Judge in the first inning.
  • Also made four starts for Columbus (AAA) during his injury rehab, pitching 13.1 innings, tallying 18 punch-outs and a 4.73 ERA.
 
Adam Ottavino (2004-2006) – RP – New York Mets
  • Saw action in 66 games for the Mets this season, pitching 65.2 innings.
  • Posted an ERA of 2.06, with a 6-3 record, and three saves.
  • Struck out 79 batters and walked just 16.
  • Made one playoff appearance as the Mets earned a Wild Card spot in the National League.
 
Jason Vosler (2012-2014) – OF – San Francisco Giants
  • Appeared in 36 games for the Giants this season, with a .265 batting average and .812 OPS.
  • Notched 26 hits, including six doubles, one triple, and four homers.
  • Scored 14 runs and tallied 12 RBIs.
  • Also appeared in 94 games for Sacramento (AAA), with 87 hits, 52 runs scored, with 18 homers and 47 RBIs.
 
Ben Malgeri (2021) – OF – West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers)
  • Made 116 appearances for the West Michigan Whitecaps (A+).
  • Tallied 88 hits, 63 runs, and 45 RBI, with four homers and triples on the year.
  • Finished the season with a .236 batting average and .700 OPS as his Whitecaps just narrowly missed out of a postseason spot.
 
Jared Dupere (2019-2021) – OF – San Jose Giants (San Francisco Giants)
  • Split time between San Jose (A) Eugene (A+) and Giants Black (RK) during the season.
  • Totaled 61 appearances with 60 hits, including 12 doubles, two triples, and 15 homers.
  • Posted a slugging percentage of .504, and scored 44 runs, while tallying 51 RBI.
  • Finished as one of San Jose's top bats on the year, and helped them to a postseason appearance.
 
Sam Jacobsak (2018-2020) – RP – Clearwater Threshers (Philadelphia Phillies)
  • Had 22 appearances in the Phillies System with Clearwater (A), Jersey Shore (A+), and the FCL Phillies (RK).
  • Had a 2-2 record on the year, pitching 35.2 innings in relief, with a 4.04 ERA.
  • Struck out 43 batters, and walked only nine.
  • Posted a 0.981 WHIP and 10.9 strikeouts/nine.
 
Max Burt (2015-2018) – INF – Somerset Patriots (New York Yankees)
  • Made 85 appearances for Somerset (AA), with a .237 batting average.
  • Tallied 32 RBI, and scored 40 runs, hitting 12 doubles and 11 homers on the year.
  • Earned hardware with Somerset as they won the 2022 Eastern League Championship.
 
Sean Mellen (2017-2019) – LHP – New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays)
  • Split time between the Fisher Cats (AA) and Vancouver (A+) in the 2022 season, totaling 37 appearances.
  • Made four starts on the year, and pitched a total of 66 innings, with a 3.00 ERA.
  • Struck out 80 batters on the year and posted a 1.24 WHIP.
  • Finished the season with an overall 3-3 record.
 
Brandon Dufault (2018-2021) – RP – Tri-City Dust Devils (LA Angels)
  • Held a 1-2 record and three saves in 34 relief appearances with Tri-City (A+).
  • Pitched 45.2 innings, with a 4.93 ERA, and a WHIP of 1.55
  • Had a 12.8 K/9, striking out 65 batters.
 
Andrew Misiaszek (2016-19) – RP – Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Guardians)
  • Spent time with the Clippers (AAA) and the RubberDucks (AA) in 2022, making 42 total appearances.
  • Posted a 5-2 record, with three starts, and seven games finished.
  • His ERA on the year was 2.04, with a 1.20 WHIP and 90 strikeouts to just 25 walks.
 
Added to the MLB system this offseason were Thomas Balboni (SD Padres), Cam Schlittler (NYY), Sebastian Keane (NYY), who were all drafted this past July and all reported to summer training camps ahead of the upcoming 2023 season.
