AMESBURY, Mass.— Freshman forward
Holly Abela of the No. 3 Northeastern women's hockey team was named Co-Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, as announced by Hockey East on Monday.
The Brampton, Ontario native tallied three goals over two victories over LIU in the Huskies opening weekend of action. Abela scored her first career NCAA goal in the 3-1 victory over LIU on Friday and followed it up with a two-goal game in Saturday's 10-1 win.
Abela's three goals are tied for the second-best mark in the NCAA among all freshmen and ranked tied for seventh nationally overall. This award marks Abela's first career honor from Hockey East and she earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors alongside Holy Cross' Alexia Moreau.
Abela and the Huskies are back in action with a home-and-home series against No. 15 UConn beginning on Friday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. in Matthews Arena.
