Northeastern Baseball Welcomes 17 New Players for the 2023 Season

BOSTON – Northeastern baseball head coach Mike Glavine has set his 2023 incoming class, which includes six transfers and 11 incoming rookies to join the 26 returners on the 2023 roster.
 
"We are very excited about this incoming class," says Glavine. "We believe we added proven veterans along with very talented freshman.  On the offensive side we added big power potential along with speed and athleticism.  On the mound we added velocity, spin and lots of different looks to build the staff.  We are looking forward to watching the impact of this class for this year and many years to come."
 
The Huskies reached their second consecutive CAA championship game in the 2022 season, and look to reload and return to that opportunity this season. The incoming class features seven position players and 10 pitchers.
 
#5 – Sean McGee – Freshman – INF – Marshfield, Mass. – IMG Academy
  • Played for IMG Academy,
  • Was a member of the Pittsfield Suns of the FCBL this past summer.
  • In 25 appearances, had five doubles 10 RBI and a .337 batting average, stealing 22 bases.
 
#6 – Aiven Cabral – Freshman – RHP – Lynn, Mass. – St. Mary's Lynn
  • Two-time Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic, team MVP for St. Mary's Lynn
  • Won 2022 FCBL Championship with the Nashua Silver Knights – pitched 36 innings in 10 appearances, striking out 46 batters.
  • Had a six-inning, 12-K performance in the FCBL playoffs
 
#7 – Cam Maldonado – Freshman – OF -  Wolcott, Conn. - Hamden Hall Country Day School
  • Four seasons with Hamden Hall – was the #5 overall player and #2 shortstop in Connecticut (Percetgame.com)
  • PH Super 25 17U National Champion, Tournament All-American, and Tournament MVP (2021)
  • Played FCBL summer ball for the Norwich Sea Unicorns – tallied 24 hits, including three doubles, a triple, and a home run, with 16 runs scored and five RBI.
 
#9 – Harrison Feinberg – Sophomore – OF – Greenwich, Conn. – USC
  • Spent his rookie season with the USC Trojans
  • Played three years for King School in Stamford, Conn.
  • Earned All-League Honors in his sophomore and senior seasons and was a 2020 preseason All-American. Number 6 overall player in CT, number 2 outfielder (PerfectGame.com, 2021)
 
#10 – Alex Lane – Senior – 1B/OF – Andover, Mass. – Bryant
  • Appeared in 66 games in his career with Bryant, averaging .257 with 15 doubles, 14 homers, and 52 RBI.
  • Named All-NEC First Team, ABCA All-Region Second Team, and NEIBA All-New England first team in his last season in Smithfield.
  • Played his high school ball at St. John's Prep, leading them to two state title game appearances.
 
#12 – Joseph Hauser – Freshman – RHP – Queens, N.Y. – St. Francis Prep
  • Four year letter winner at St. Francis Prep and Next Level Baseball.
  • Named to the 2021 17U All-American Team (PerfectGame.com).
  • Two-time member of the CHSAA Brooklyn-Queens All-League Team.
 
#13 – Matt Brinker – Freshman – C – Norfolk, Mass. – Xaverian Brothers
  • Three seasons at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, winning the Massachusetts State Title in his junior season.
  • Boston Herald D1 Player of the Year, two-time Catholic Conference MVP, and Herald and Globe All-Scholastic team member.
  • Also spent five seasons with the Garciapara Baseball Program.
 
#14 – Patrick Harrington – Grad. Student – RHP – Bedford, N.H. – Assumption
  • Made 43 career appearances for Assumption University, making 18 starts, posting a 5.56 career ERA, and recording five career saves.
  • Totaled 153 career strikeouts, just 58 walks.
  • Went 6-4 in his final season with the Greyhounds, throwing one complete game.
 
#16 – Ryan Griffin – Freshman – RHP – North Andover, Mass. – North Andover High
  • Played four seasons at North Andover High, winning the Super 8 Championship his freshman season.
  • First Team All-Conference, MCBA All-Star Game player, Eagle Trubne All-Star, and Boston Globe All-Scholastic Team member.
  • Made seven appearances with the Pittsfield Suns of the FCBL, striking out four batters in 13.1 innings pitched.
 
#18 – Griffin Young – Grad. Student – RHP - Dover, N.H.- Wheaton
  • Comes to Boston from Wheaton College in Norton – tallied 26 starts for the Lyons, posting an 18-2 career record and a 2.17 career ERA.
  • Struck out 187 batters in 182.1 innings pitched.
  • Three-time NEWMAC All-Conference, two-time New England All-Region player.
 
#23 – Charlie Walker – Freshman – RHP – Milton, Mass. – Milton High
  • Former Bay State League MVP with Milton High, earning Boston Globe MIAA D2 Player of the Year honors in 2022.
  • Played his summer ball for the Brockton Rox of the FCBL, making seven total appearances, striking out 30 batters in 28.1 innings.
  • Comes from family of collegiate athletes with both parents competing in New England collegiate track and field, and two brothers playing baseball at URI and UMass Lowell.
 
#26 – Craig Ottaviano – Freshman – RHP – Stamford, Conn. – Westhill
  • Played varsity ball for Westill Highschool (Stamfield, Conn.) from 2019-22.
  • Also spent those same seasons at The Clubhouse (Fairfield, Conn.).
  • Number-3 rated RHP in Connecticut, top-500 pitcher nationally (Perfectgame.com)
 
#28 – Melo Mussachia – Freshman – INF – New York, N.Y.) – Fordham Prep
  • All-CHSAA First Team short stop and MVP for Fordham Prep (Bronx, N.Y.).
  • Won an FCBL championship with the Nashua Silver Knights in 2022.
  • Appeared in 22 games in the FCBL, tallying 30 hits, 10 runs, 11 RBI, on five doubles, a triple, and two home runs. Finished the summer with a .353 average.
 
#33 – Tyler MacGregor – Grad. Student – 1B – Peadbody, Mass. – Columbia
  • Posted a .329 career batting average in 56 appearances with Columbia University.
  • Hit .332 with three homers and 39 RBI in his final season with the Lions, being named team captain and earning an Ivy League All-Conference honorable mention.
  • Played his high school ball at St. John's Prep (Danvers, Mass.), earning MVP honors, Boston Globe and Herald All-Scholastic recognition, and was a two-time Catholic Conference All-Star.
 
#43 - Carson Walsh – Freshman – RHP – Sterling, Mass. – Worcester Academy
  • Three-year player for Worcester Academy, two-year player for Wachusett High.
  • Appeared in 10 games for Westfield Starfires of the FBL this summer.
  • Pitched 12.1 innings, recorded 13 punch-outs as the Starfires reached the semifinal round in 2022.
 
#44 – Jimmy Sullivan – Junior – C – East Hampton, Conn. – UMass Lowell
  • Played freshman and sophomore seasons at UMass Lowell, posting a career batting average of .304 with 10 doubles, one triple, and two homers.
  • His rookie season earned him All-Conference and All-Rookie honors from America East, and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman All-American honors.
  • Played his summer ball with Mohawk Valley of the PGCBL, notching eight RBIs on eight hits over the summer.
 
#47 – James Morice – Freshman – RHP – Southbury, Conn. – Canterbury
  • Three-year varsity baseball player at Canterbury High (New Milford, Conn.).
  • Played for Baseball U in that same timeframe.
  • Top three RHP in Connecticut, top 46 overall player in the state (Perfectgame.com).
 
The 2022 Huskies posted a 31-29-1 record, down just five wins from a program-record 36 wins set in the 2021 season. The Huskies are set to kick the season off this coming February, 2023.
