Women Finish Fifth, Men Finish Eighth at NCAA Northeast Regionals

BRONX, N.Y. – The Northeastern cross country program put on a historic performance on Friday, with the women's team finishing fifth and the men's team finishing eighth at the NCAA Northeast Regionals in Bronx, N.Y.
 
For the women, the fifth-place finish is 12 spots up from the 17th place finish from a year ago and the best finish at the NCAA regionals for the women program history. The team had four finishers in the top-50 and five finishers in the top-10 in Northeastern history.
 
For the men, the eighth-place finish was also the best finish for the team in program history. The team had four finishers place in the top-ten in Northeastern history in the event, each of the three in the top-50.
 
Women (6K – 5th place)
  • Abigail Hassman led the way for the Huskies, posting a 13th place finish with a time of 20:57.4. Her time was the third best in program history, after setting the record earlier this season.
  • Hassman's finish in 13th was a program-best in the NCAA Regional round.
  • Isa Meyers followed behind in 23rd with a time of 21:08.9 with the fourth best time in program history, while Azza Borovicka-Swanson placed 37th with a time of 21:22.8 and the fifth best time in program history.
  • Tessa McClain finished in the 48th position with a time of 21:33.3, and Vivian McMahon came in at 21:44.4 in 59th. Both posting a top ten time in Northeastern history.
  • Nicole Dunbury rounded out the day for Northeastern with a time of 22:27.4.

Men (10K – 8th place)
  • Alexander Korczynski paced the Huskies, finishing seventh with a time of 29:39.9, his best 10K finish of his career, and the third-best 10k time in Northeastern history.
  • Korczynski's seventh-place finish was the highest finish in program history at the NCAA Regional level.
  • Benjamin Godish finished 21st in the event, with a time of 30:00.9, the fourth best finish in Northeastern history. While Matthew Schaefer finished 43rd with a time of 30:38.1 and posted the ninth best time in Northeastern history.
  • Patrick Mullen (30:54.8) finished 58th, while Mason Gatewood (37.17.7) finished in 96th.
  • Rounding it out for the Huskies was Patrick Cantlon (31:50.4) and Nicholas Young (32:27.3).

Four Huskies were named to the All-Region team, two on each team: Abigail Hassman, Isa Meyers, Alexander Korczynski, and Benjamin Godish.

Korczynski's finish advances him to NCAA Championship meet in Stillwater, Oklahoma, hosted by Oklahoma State University on November 19. He's the first Husky to advance to the championship meet since the 2014 season.
