No.13 Huskies Fall to No. 17 Boston University, 1-0, in Beanpot Championship Game

BOX SCORE (PDF)

BOSTON -  Freshman goaltender TJ Semptimphelter made 28 saves, but it was not enough as the No. 13 Northeastern men's hockey team (19-9-1, 10-6-1 HEAM) fell to No. 17 Boston University (17-10-3, 11-6-3 HEAM) by a score of 1-0, after a late goal by the Terriers in the final three minutes of the Beanpot Championship Game.

Semptimphelter was stellar in the Beanpot, earning the the 2022 Eberly Award for achieving the tournament's best save percentage (.972). He's the 12th Husky to earn the honor and the fourth straight Husky to nab the Eberly Award.

  • Semptimphelter picked up right where he left off at TD Garden after his 41 save performance in the semifinals, with a big stop off a great Boston University opportunity at the 3:24 mark.
  • Junior defenseman Tyler Spott had a big opportunity after seven minutes of play after picture perfect passing by the Huskies that had him right in front of the BU tender, but was able to make the save.
  • The teams traded opportunities for most of the first period, but neither were able to convert. Semptimphelter stood tall making 11 saves in the frame.
  • Junior forward Aidan McDonough and sophomore forward Sam Colangelo had opportunities in the first two minutes of the second, but McDonough missed wide and BU goalie made the save on Colangelo.
  • Back and forth play continued, with neither team having a power play. Northeastern tallied seven shots on goal compared to five for BU in the second period, but neither were able to convert.
  • BU dominated to start the third, outshooting the Huskies 9-1 in the first seven minutes. The Terriers continued to push Northeastern to the brink, and converted at the 2:46 mark to break the scoreless tie.
  • With the win, the Terriers snapped Northeastern's three-game winning streak in the Beanpot finals, and improve to 34-11 all-time against the Huskies in the Beanpot.
The Huskies will host Boston College in their Skating Strikes for Breast Cancer Game on Friday, February 18. Puck drop is set for 7 pm, and can be watched on NESN+.
