PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- The Northeastern baseball team (2-5, 0-0 CAA) battled Marshall University (4-3, 0-0 C-USA) but fell 13-3 in game one, and 3-2 in game two of the double header Saturday afternoon in Port Charlotte.
GAME ONE - BOX SCORE (PDF)
- Sebastian Keane got the start, pitching 4.0 innings striking out five batters.
- Marshall would get on the board first scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
- The Herd would stay hot through the sixth inning tacking on four more runs extending their lead 7-0.
- Northeastern would answer back in the bottom six with a two-run homer to left field from Mark Darakjy, his second of the season.
- Nick Davis would step on the bump for northeastern in the top seven, striking out two batters.
- The eighth inning would remain scoreless for both teams but the ninth would draw in six more runs for Marshall.
- Brett Durham stepped on the mound for his collegiate debut pitching one inning and striking out a batter.
- Justin Bosland doubled to right field in the bottom nine to keep Northeastern alive.
- Darakjy would the single to right field advancing Bosland to third.
- Bosland would score the last run of the game on a wild pitch.
GAME TWO - BOX SCORE (PDF)
- Marshall would strike first with an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the opening frame.
- Jeff Costello was hit by pitch in the top third and would advance to second on a fielding error by the first baseman
- Justin Bosland would walk followed by Mike Sirota sending a single to to center field.
- Sirota's single would send advance Bosland to third and send Costello home, tying the game 1-1.
- Marshall would tack on another run in the bottom third to take a 2-1 lead.
- Jordy Allard would take the mound, pitching 4.0 innings while allowing no runs, and striking out two batters.
- Sirota doubled to right field in the top of the eighth and stole third.
- Buddy Mrowka doubled to right center field sending Sirota home to tie the game 2-2.
- Northeastern and Marshall would battle it out in the ninth, but would push the game to a tenth inning.
- Marshall's first baseman, Carinmci, would single to left field with bases loaded to drive in the winning run of the game.
Northeastern will face Merrimack in their final game of the Snowbird Baseball Classic tomorrow morning at 10am. The game will be streamed live on FloBaseball.
