Elon Knocks Off Northeastern In Regular Season Finale, 67-54

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team (8-21, 2-16) had two players reach double-figures, but Elon (10-21, 7-11) used a 50% shooting performance in the second half and 21 points from Hunter McIntosh to knock off the Huskies on Saturday afternoon, 67-54.

Jason Strong had a team-high 14 points along with six rebounds for Northeastern, which found itself in foul trouble early in the contest. Jahmyl Telfort added 13 points for the hosts, while Nikola Djogo had seven points and a team-high eight rebounds. NU was 19-of-55 (35%) from the floor and 7-of-25 from deep.

McIntosh was joined in double figures by Michael Graham's 10 point, 10 rebound performance as well as Darius Burford's 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting. The Phoenix went 42% from the field on the afternoon and 8-of-24 from three.

Northeastern, the No. 9 seed in the CAA Tournament, will take on No. 8 seed William & Mary in the opening round next Saturday at 5 p.m. in Washington, D.C. The teams split the season series in 2021-22, including a 62-28 Huskies victory on Feb. 24.

Prior to the game, the Huskies honored Djogo, Strong and Shaquille Walters during a pregame Senior Day ceremony.

• It was slow going for both squads in the opening half, with Northeastern going 7-of-29 (24%) and Elon 11-of-31 (35%). The Phoenix opened the game on a 13-3 run over the first 3:37 of the game with five points coming from Wooten.

• The Huskies chipped away to bring it within a possession thanks to 11 first half points from Strong, who went 3-of-6 from deep, before Elon finished the half on an 11-3 run to lead by 10 at the break, 30-20.

• Northeastern cut the deficit to five early in the second half with a quick 6-2 run, capped by a layup from Walters to make it 35-30 less than four minutes into the second half.

• Elon, though, responded with an 8-2 run to regain its three-possession lead, which it kept through the remainder of regulation.
