TORONTO - Northeastern University blue-liner
Tommy Miller has signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team announced Thursday morning.
"Playing pro hockey has always been a goal in my life," says Miller. "I'm pretty excited to be a part of the Toronto Marlies organization."
Miller, a grad. transfer from Michigan State, joined the Huskies for a fifth year in which he took assistant captaincy, leading Northeastern's defensive core, appearing in all 39 games for the Huskies. He also chipped in offensively with a game-winning Hockey East goal and eight assists. Miller blocked 58 shots in his season with Northeastern, second-only to his defensive partner
Jordan Harris.
"He's a consummate pro," says Northeastern assistant coach
Mike McLaughlin. "He showed up pro ready on day one. When you're a coach running a bench, the biggest thing is: 'Can you trust the guy going over the boards?' And he's someone you can trust 100% of the time."
Miller finished his collegiate career appearing in 174 games with six goals and 30 assists. His game-winning goal at UMass Lowell was the third of his career, notching two with the Spartans.Â
"I'm going to miss the Friday and Saturday nights at Matthews," says Miller. "The DogHouse was there for us all year, creating that energy."
Miller joins Harris as the second Husky from the 2021-22 roster to sign with an NHL organization this post-season, with Harris signing with the Montreal Canadiens this past Saturday.
