BROOKLINE, Mass. - In their season home opener, the Northeastern Huskies baseball team (6-5-1) ended their late afternoon game with a tie to UMass (1-2-1) with the scoreline at 1-1.
- Northeastern's Eric Yost got his third start of the season, going 4.0 innings allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out five in his shutout effort.
- First-baseman Justin Bosland got a first-inning single to get the bats going early for the Huskies, but after stealing second, he was left on base to end the inning.
- In the bottom of the third, Corey DiLoreto became the third Husky to hit a triple this year, hitting the ball to center field with two outs. UMass was able to tally the third out before he could get home.
- Second-baseman Luke Beckstein was hit by a pitch in the fifth and was advanced to second by Spencer Smith's ground-out. A hard-hit ball to third base by Jeff Costello would force a bobbled catch at first base and Beckstein was able to score on the error, making it 1-0 Northeastern through five.
- The Huskies' defense held strong only giving up three hits through seven innings of play.
- The NU bullpen also performed well with Owen Langan (2.0 IP, 1 BB, 1K), Thomas Balboni (1.0 IP, 1H, 1K), Jordy Allard (1.0 IP, 2H, 1K) and Dennis Colleran (1.0 IP, 0H, 3BB, 1K) seeing action on the afternoon.
- UMass was able to load the bases in the ninth and walk home the tying run going into the bottom of the ninth.
- The Huskies were unable to answer back in the bottom of the ninth, and the game was called due to darkness.
The Huskies will head south for the weekend, facing off with #19 Clemson this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All three games will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
