BOX SCORE (PDF)

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In a midweek non-conference matchup, Northeastern University (18-18-1) fell to Bryant University (15-19) by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Conaty Park.

The Huskies had four leads which the Bulldogs tied, with Bryant eventually pulling ahead in the seventh inning.

  • The Huskies got on the board first with a second-inning that saw two runs on three hits – it all began with Jack Thorbahn hitting a leadoff single followed by single by JP Olson, sending Thorbahn to third.
  • After Olson stole second, Luke Masiuk notched his first career RBI with a single to left field, scoring Thorbahn. The following hitter Kyle Hoog hit a sacrifice fly to score Olson from third for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Bulldogs would tie the game up in the bottom of the inning with a bases loaded on an RBI single and RBI fielder's choice.
  • Northeastern retook the lead in the very next inning on an RBI single by Luke Beckstein through the shift on the left side – he hit home Spenser Smith, who reached on an outfield error and took third on a fly out.
  • Bryant manufactured the tying run in the fourth with a runner reaching on an error and advancing to third on a sacrifice, with an RBI single netting the tying run.
  • The Huskies got back-to-back leadoff singles to start the fifth inning by Sirota and Smith put runners at the corners and Max Viera hit a deep fly out to score Sirota on the sacrifice to retake the lead, 4-3.
  • JP Olson hit an infield single to the third baseman – with Smith halfway home, there was no play in the infield to make and the Husky lead was extended to 5-3.
  • Bryant once again tied the game in the sixth, on a two-run homer to right-center field to make it 5-5.
  • In the top of the seventh, Spenser Smith reached base on a walk and then worked his way to third on two passed balls. While on third with two outs he sprinted home on a wild pitch to retake the lead, 6-5.
  • Bryant took its first lead of the day in the seventh on an sac-fly RBI and a single that scored two – the Bulldogs led 8-6 after seven.
  • The Huskies tried to rally in the ninth with back to back singles for Sirota and Smith, and an RBI double for Luke Beckstein cut the lead to one run, but a game-ending double play sealed the victory for the Bulldogs.
  • Northeastern pitching totaled nine strikeouts on the day, with at least one from each pitcher. Eric Yost led the way with three as he closed out the final 1.1 innings of play.

The Huskies will continue their non-conference stint with a weekend series at High Point University this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Game one is Friday evening at 6pm on ESPN+.
