HIGH POINT, N.C. – In the rubber game of the series, the Northeastern baseball team (19-20-1) fell to High Point University (14-27) by a score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Williard Stadium.
- The Panthers loaded the bases in the bottom of the first, but redshirt sophomore pitcher Cam Schlittler got out of the jam with a double play and flyout. Â
- High Point got on the board first with an unearned run in the bottom of the second after a batter reached on an error with two outs, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI single.
- Northeastern threatened in the top of the third after a single by freshman infielder Jack Doyle and double by freshman outfielder Luke Masiuk, but couldn't convert on the opportunity.
- The Huskies knotted up the contest in the top of the fifth. After Masiuk reached on an error, and advanced on a groundout, redshirt junior infielder Spenser Smith brought him home on an RBI single.
- High Point took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double and RBI single to make the score 3-1.
- The Panthers added to the lead in the seventh with a two-run home run.
- Masiuk continued his solid day at the plate, hitting his first career home run in the top of the eighth, trimming the deficit to 5-2. - Masiuk finished the day with two of the Huskies' five hits.
- Schlittler went 5.2 innings on the mound (L, 2-7), giving up just one earned run and six hits, while striking out three.
- Eric Yost and Nick Davis closed out the game on the mound - Yost went 1.0 IP allowing three runs on four hits with a strikeout, and Davis went 1.1 IP with no hits, runs, or walks, and one strikeout.
The Huskies will return home after a long eight game stretch of road games to face No. 15 UConn on Tuesday, April 26. First pitch is slated for 3 pm at Friedman Diamond, and can be watched on
