BOSTON – The 2021-22 season has been an extremely successful one for Northeastern Athletics and the student-athletes, and on Tuesday night at the Howlin' Huskies Awards, the department celebrated all accomplishments, and recognized some great achievements that took place so far this year.
The men's and women's hockey teams earned Team of the Year recognition after their stellar seasons. Men's hockey finished with 25 wins under head coach
Jerry Keefe, which are the most for a first-year head coach in program history. The Huskies had three players earn All-American accolades as the program returned to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in team history.
Finishing the season with an 31-5-2 record en route to Hockey East Regular Season and Tournament championships, as well as a return to the NCAA Frozen Four for the second straight season, the women's hockey team had a year to remember. Four Huskies earned All-American honors, while
Dave Flint was named a finalist for National Coach of Year.
Presented by Director of Athletics and Recreation,
Jim Madigan,
Jordan Harris of men's hockey took home the Gallagher Award, and
Erin Savage of field hockey won the Rowlands Award. Both awards are two of the most prestigious honors in the department, and are given annually to the top male and female senior scholar-athletes.
Both cross country/track and field teams had successful seasons and took home a number of awards. Highlighting the accolades on the men's side,
Alexander Korczynski won Best Male Individual Competition for his finish at the CAA Championships. Korczynski finished the 8K race with a time of 25:01.20 to lead the Huskies. On the women's side,
Dominique Biron took home Best Female Individual Competition for her performance at ECAC Championships. Biron led the Huskies to a second-place finish at the Championships, and was tabbed Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet.
The Northeastern swimming and diving team also finished the night with a variety of accolades. Capping off her stellar freshman campaign,
Erin Murphy earned Top Newcomer honors. In addition to her two medals at CAAs, Murphy broke the school record in the 1M dive at the Boston Winter Open. In addition to a great year in the pool, the team excelled in the classroom. The Huskies earned Academic Team of the Year leading all programs with a 3.652 GPA, and
