BROOKLINE, Mass. – In game one of their three-game weekend set, Northeastern University (21-21-1, 5-8 CAA) defeated Towson University (10-31, 1-12 CAA) by a score of 6-1 on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
The Huskies got on the board early, and the defense held strong to keep Towson at just its one run in the fourth.
- The Huskies got on the board early with a two-run bottom of the first, scoring on three hits, two stolen bases, and one Towson error.
- Spenser Smith reached base on a fielding error at first and immediately stole second on the next pitch. Corey DiLoreto followed that up with an RBI single to score Smith for the 1-0 lead.
- Luke Beckstein would single and eventually make his way to third on a steal and a wild pitch, and Max Viera hit him home with an RBI single, making it 2-0.
- Towson cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch.
- The Huskies put up another crooked number in the sixth to add insurance – with two outs, Danny Crossen hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Viera from first, and the bases were cleared by a Justin Bosland RBI single, scoring Crossen and Luke Masiuk to make it 5-1.
- Bosland added even more insurance in the eighth with a two-out RBI single up the middle to score Max Viera from third to make it 6-1.
- Wyatt Scotti got the start and pitched 4.2 innings allowing four hits and just the one run. He struck out four on the afternoon.
- Eric Yost (W, 3-2) took over from there an pitched the final 4.1 innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out six batters, just one K shy of his career-high.
- Altogether, the Huskies pitching staff struck out 10 batters while issuing no walks.
- Northeastern has now held opponents to two runs or less in 18 contests this season and is 13-4-1 in those contests.
