BROOKLINE, Mass. – Northeastern University baseball (26-23-1, 9-10 CAA) lost its weekend-opening contest against UNCW (27-21, 11-8 CAA) by a score of 9-2 on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.

- Northeastern was the first to score when Corey DiLoreto hit an RBI triple to center field in the first, scoring the leadoff runner Jeff Costello, who reached on a walk.
- The Seahawks tied the game up in the top of the second and took the lead on a two-run home run in the third to lead 3-1.
- JP Olson cut the lead to just one run in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI single up the middle. Corey DiLoreto scored from third after walking and a Luke Beckstein single.
- The Seahawks extended their lead in the eighth and ninth innings with three runs in each.
- The Huskies had rally chances late in the game with runners in scoring position, but UNCW was able to hold the Huskies to just the two runs.
- Eric Yost (L, 4-3) got the start and went 5.0 innings with eight runs and just the three early earned runs. He walked one and struck out four.
- In relief, the Huskies saw action from Nick Davis (2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 BB) and Jake Gigliotti (1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER) to close out the game.
The two teams will match up again Saturday, May 14 at 1pm on FloBaseball.
