Huskies Home-and-Home Series On Tap With #11 Merrimack

BOSTON, Mass. -- This weekend, the Huskies are set for a home-and-home with Merrimack College. Northeastern will head to North Andover on Friday evening (Jan. 20) before hosting their first game back at Matthews Arena since mid-November on Saturday (Jan. 21).

Friday night's game is set for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+ and Saturday night's matchup will begin at 7:30 p.m. on NESN+/ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. WARRIOR BATTLE: Northeastern has won the last seven straight contests with Merrimack, split evenly between Matthews Arena and Lawler Rink, and including a 1-0 shutout last season on the road. Within the seven-game stretch over the last three seasons, Northeastern holds a 30-11 scoring margin over.
  2. LONG TIME HISTORY: Against Merrimack, since their freshman season, Aidan McDonough has tallied ten points (5g, 5a) in eight games, Jayden Struble has recorded 5 points (1g, 4a), Riley Hughes has scored three goals, and Matt DeMelis (2g), Jeremie Bucheler (2a) and Tyler Spott (1g, 1a) have all tallied two points. In their careers at Northeastern, Jack Hughes holds four points (1g, 3a) against Merrimack while juniors Gunnarwolfe Fontaine (1g, 2a) and Sam Colangelo (2g, 1a) each have three. Junior Michael Outzen even recorded his first career goal in the Huskies' 6-1-win last season.
  3. POINT HUNTING: Five players are currently riding point streaks as Northeastern heads into their fourth game of 2023. Senior Aidan McDonough leads with six points (4g, 2a) in three games. Freshman Vinny Borgesi has tallied three helpers in as many games while freshman Cam Lund has three points (3a) in the last two games. Sophomore Justin Hryckowian has two points (1g, 1a) in as many games and graduate student Liam Walsh has tallied one goal and two assists in his last two games. The Huskies longest streak in recent games came from junior Sam Colangelo who tallied six points (3g, 3a) in four games played including scoring the overtime winner at LIU before the holiday break.
