Erdogan And Motema Earn CAA Preseason Honors, Huskies Picked Third In Preseason Poll

BOSTON - Northeastern women's basketball guards Derin Erdogan and Gemima Motema earned All-CAA Preseason honors, announced at the conference's annual Media Day on Thursday. Erdogan was tabbed to the First Team, and Motema garnered Second Team accolades. The Huskies were also picked third in the conference preseason poll with two first place votes.
 
Erdogan is coming off a stellar first season at Northeastern in 2022-23. The team's leading scorer averaged 15.0 points per game, which was good for sixth in the CAA. Erdogan tallied 28 double-digit scoring games, highlighted by a career-high 27 points and 10 assists in Northeastern's quarterfinal victory over Stony Brook. The Istanbul, Turkey native led the team in assists with 125, averaging 4.0 per game. Additionally, the 2022-23 All-CAA First Team honoree led the team in three-pointers with 67, averaging 2.2 per game (sixth in the CAA), and was also strong on defense with 50 steals, which ranked second on the squad.
 
Motema had a strong sophomore campaign for the Huskies. The Portland, Maine native finished second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game. Motema had 21 double-digit scoring games, three of which were 20+ points. The 2022-23 All-CAA Third Team and All-Defensive honoree tallied a season-high 21 points (one shy of a career-high) against Boston College, and defensively had a career-high six steals against Maine. Motema led the team with 54 steals, which ranked eighth in the conference.
 
The Huskies will open the 2023-24 season at Stonehill on Monday, November 6. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. and will stream on NEC Front Row.
