Northeastern Wins First Terrier Invite Since 2007

BOSTON — Led by juniors Erin Murphy and Devon Muldoon, the Northeastern swim and dive team championed the Terrier Invitational Sunday evening after three days of competition, scoring 1,605 points to win the meet for the first time since 2007. The Huskies outlasted Boston University, Fairfield and UMass to take home the win.
 
Murphy swept both the 1M Dive and the 3M Dive, Muldoon won the 200 Back and 400 IM and Northeastern took first in the 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay and 800 Free Relay, setting a pool record of 1:31.33 at BU's FitRec Competition Pool.

SUNDAY
  • Freshman Bella Busconi kicked off the evening with a second-place finish in the 1650 Free, touching the wall at 17:16.74.
  • Muldoon earned her second win of the weekend with a 1:57.77 time in the 200 Back, setting a personal best in the event. Sophomore Anna Verlander was the next Husky to finish, earning fourth with a 2:00.70 time. 
  • The Huskies had three top-five finishers in the 100 Free, with sophomore Kotoko Blair (50.58), senior Jamie Koo (50.99) and freshman May Bradburn (51.03) finishing second, third and fifth, respectively. Blair and Bradburn's times were personal bests.
  • Junior Stella Urness' time of 2:21.54 in the 200 Breast preliminaries was a personal best. She finished seventh in the final with a time of 2:22.46. Sophomore Marcela Scaramuzza picked up fifth in the 200 Breast final with a time of 2:21.83
  • Junior Hannah Seward swam a 2:03.51 in the 200 Fly to finish third and mark a personal best.
  • Ending the meet, the Huskies' foursome of Koo, Bradburn, Blair and senior captain Grace Miller posted a 3:23.42 time in the 400 Free Relay to win Northeastern's third relay of the meet.
SATURDAY
  • Murphy kicked off her birthday afternoon with a win in the 3M Dive, scoring a 266.90 to take first and sweep both the 3M and 1M Dives at the Terrier Invitational. 
  • The night session began with the Huskies taking second in the 200 Medley Relay, with the team of junior Kate Cosgrove, sophomore Marcela Scaramuzza, senior Jamie Koo and sophomore Kotoko Blair touching the wall at 1:41.74, just two seconds behind the school record.
  • Muldoon championed the 400 IM, finishing at 4:23.87 in the A final and giving the Huskies 24 points toward the total. Freshman Bella Busconi won the B final, touching the wall at 4:39.87 and setting a new personal best for herself.
  • The Huskies had three swimmers in the top four of the 100 Fly, with Koo (54.33), freshman May Bradburn (54.63) and junior Hannah Seward (54.83) placing second, third and fourth, respectively, in the event.
  • Miller's win came next, as the Morristown, New Jersey native finished at 1:50.77 to clai the top spot in the 200 Free.
  • Sophomore Elisabeth Bendall was the top finisher for the Huskies in the 100 Breast, taking fourth with a time of 1:03.98, a personal best.
  • Muldoon set a personal best in the 100 Back, finishing fourth with a time of 55.41.
  • The Huskies' foursome of Miller, Seward, junior Emily Cooley and freshman Mary Nordmann took first in the 800 Free Relay, posting a 7:28.98 time.
FRIDAY
  • Murphy posted a score of 272.10 from the 1-meter board to earn the Huskies' first win of the day. The score was her best so far this season.
  • The Huskies' foursome of senior Jamie Koo, freshman May Bradburn, freshman Mary Norseman and sophomore Kotoko Blair swam a time of 1:31.33 to win the 200 Free Relay, the best of the Huskies' season so far.
  • Senior captain Grace Miller touched the wall at 5:01.27 to finish third in the A final of the 500 Free, also her season-best.
  • Junior Hannah Seward (2:02.80) and classmate Devon Muldoon (2:03.46) came in second and third, respectively, in the 200 IM A final.
  • Koo touched the wall at 22.74 in the 50 Free, good for second place overall and a season best. She was just .53 seconds away from her personal best and the Northeastern program record.
Following the Huskies' second-straight win, they will host their second home meet of the year when New Hampshire comes to Barletta Natatorium Saturday, Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. That meet will be available to view on FloSports.
