THREE THINGS TO KNOW
Â
1. SERIES HISTORY VS. PRINCETON
The Huskies and Princeton are meeting for the seventh time in program history, and second in the last two seasons. The series is tied, 3-3, with the Tigers winning the most recent meeting on Nov. 26, 2022 in the championship game of the London Basketball Classic, 56-54.
Â
Saturday will be the first time the teams have played at Princeton since Nov. 13, 2012, a 67-66 win for the Huskies in which current assistant coach
Joel Smith had six points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Â
2. AGAINST THE BEST
Saturday is the second of five games this season against teams that reached the 2023 NCAA Tournament. It's also the second straight season that Northeastern is taking on an opponent that reached the Sweet 16 the season prior (Providence, 2022).
Â
The Huskies battled 2023 Atlantic Sun champion Kennesaw State last week, and also has Virginia (at-large), Vermont (America East champion) and College of Charleston (CAA champion) on the schedule later this season
Â
3. OFFENSE IS CLICKING
The Huskies averaged 84.0 points per game during the TowneBank Holiday Classic in Greenville, N.C., including a 93-point outburst against Georgia Southern on Nov. 21. It was the first time Northeastern reached the 90-point plateau since Nov. 19, 2019.
Â
Northeastern exploded for 53 points in the second half at East Carolina on Nov. 19, the most second half points since Mar. 3, 2019 vs. Drexel (53). NU's 63.6% second half shooting percentage that day, meanwhile, was its best against a non-conference opponent since 2021. Northeastern followed it up with an 18-of-27 (66.7%) second half showing against Georgia Southern on Tuesday.
