Women’s Basketball Welcomes Three During Signing Period

BOSTON – Northeastern women's basketball head coach Priscilla Edwards-Lloyd is thrilled to announce the addition of three on Wednesday for the 2024-25 season.

"It's an exciting day here on the Ave as we welcome Maya, Taylor, and Alyssa to the program," said Edwards-Lloyd. "This class brings a mix of versatility, skill, and passion for the game. These young women embody our philosophy of being winners, scholars, and leaders, and we could not be happier to have them join our Husky family!"

Taylor Holohan

Taylor Holohan, Forward, Averill Park, NY.

Holohan, a senior from Averill Park High School, was a Class A MVP for the Section Two Girls Basketball Tournament in 2022 & 2023, Class A State All Star in 2022, and MVP for the Tip Off Tournament. The senior has won the Sectional Championship four times (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23), Regional Championship twice (2021-22, 2022-23) and State Championship once (2021-22). Holohan also plays AAU Basketball for the New York Havoc.

Holohan: "After falling in love with the coaching staff through several phone calls, I was excited to see if I would fall in love with other things about the school once I went in person. When I stepped on campus it was great. I was impressed by the academics, the campus, the city and meeting the team was the icing on the cake. I just knew this was my place, and I am beyond excited and thankful to get the opportunity to study and play here. I'm so thrilled and grateful to be joining such a special team, with such amazing coaches. I can't wait to spend the next four years of my life growing and learning at Northeastern University! Go Huskies!!"

Edwards-Lloyd on Holohan: "Taylor is a winner. She's won a state title with her high school (Averill Park) and understands what it means to compete at the highest level. What we love most is her versatility on both sides of the ball. Taylor is an inside-out threat and has an elite ability to alter shots in the paint."

Alyssa Staten

Alyssa Staten, Center, Statesboro, Ga.

Staten, a senior from Statesboro High School, is a 2021-22 All Region Honorable Mention, and First Team Region Honoree as Center and Power Forward in 2022-23. Staten is also fifth in Georgia with rebounds by MaxPrep, All-State for Georgia, Top GA Center ranking #3, and is an All-Team Coastal honoree. The senior also has played AAU basketball with LevelUp Academy, Zone6 Celtics, Team H20 Elite, and Southeast All-Stars.

Staten: "Once I committed to Northeastern, I knew I needed the discipline and hard work to not only get me there but to keep me here. I hope that my time here will allow me to gain more experience and knowledge for my future as well as play the sport I love. I'm excited to spend the next four years of my life as a Husky!"

Edwards-Lloyd on Staten: "A dual sport athlete, Alyssa has competed and excelled in volleyball and basketball. At 6'4, Alyssa is agile, has excellent touch around the rim, and plays with a physicality we love. Alyssa will bring an immediate presence to our front court."

Maya Summerville

Maya Summerville, Forward, Morristown, NJ.

Summerville, a senior from Morristown High School, was tabbed an MVP for three years (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23), is a 3x All County Honoree, and named to the All-Conference First Team for two years and second team in 2020-21. Summerville is on pace to reach 1,000 career points and is the only player in program history to hit career triple digits across every stat line. The senior also had 13 double-doubles during the 2022-23 season and played for the United NJ AAU Team and Morris Magic AAU Team for three years, respectively.

Summerville: "I am so grateful to have found a home in Northeastern. As soon as I arrived, I felt like I belonged here. The staff and players were so warm and welcoming; campus was beautiful, and I love the Boston area.  That said, what really sealed the deal was the amount of diversity I saw within the campus, team, and coaching staff. The amount of love, support, and sense of belonging I felt after talking to folks about their different backgrounds is when I knew I'd be a Husky. I am so excited to start my collegiate academic and basketball journey next year at Northeastern."

Edwards-Lloyd on Summerville: "Maya is like a Swiss army knife; she can impact a game in multiple ways. Defensively, we love Maya's ability to guard 1-5. Offensively, Maya has a knack for finishing in the paint and is expanding her game to behind the arch. She is just scratching the surface of her game."
