FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Northeastern Huskies (2-1) dropped their seven-inning exhibition match up with the Boston Red Sox on Friday afternoon by a score of 5-3 at JetBlue park. The Red Sox got off to an early lead in the first inning, but the Huskies were able to settle in and battle back with the tying run at the plate multiple times late in the game.
Leading the way offensively for the Huskies were
Mike Sirota (2B, SB, RBI, R),
Danny Crossen (RBI), and
Harrison Feinberg (1-for-2, BB, R).
Spenser Smith led off the game with a line drive single to right field, and
Ed Jarvis followed suit in the second inning giving the Red Sox pitchers some early trouble in the contest.
Down 5-0 in the first inning, the Huskies battled back tallying runs in the fourth and fifth innings on a
Mike Sirota RBI double off the top of the green monster,
Danny Crossen with a RBI force out, and
Harrison Feinberg scoring from third on a wild pitch.
Northeastern's bullpen had a strong showing in the final five innings, led by
Patrick Harrington (2.2 IP, 2H, 0R),
Will Jones (1.0 IP, 1H, 0R), and
James Morice (1.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 2K). Freshman
Carson Walsh finished out the game on the bump, keeping the Sox off the board for another inning to give the offense one more chance at scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.
The Huskies will stay in Florida for the weekend when they face Indiana State at the Snowbird Classic. They kick off the series Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with the first game of a double header with the Sycamores, with the games streaming on FloBaseball.
