BOSTON— The No. 20/17 Northeastern men's hockey team is set to face the Providence Friars on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in Schneider Arena. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- FACING THE FRIARS: Against the Friars, since their freshman season, captain Aidan McDonough leads with 11 points (2g, 9a), Jayden Struble and Jeremie Bucheler have each tallied one goal and three assists, Matt DeMelis has recorded two goals, and Alex Mella has recorded a single helper. In their careers at Northeastern, Gunnarwolfe Fontaine holds five points (4g, 1a) in seven games against Providence while Jack Hughes (2g, 1a) and Jakov Novak (3a) each have three points, Matt Choupani has tallied one goal and one helper, and Sam Colangelo has collected one assist.
- BIG LINE GRINDERS: Since the new year, the Huskies third and fourth liners have produced serious numbers. In the opening eight games of the 2023 calendar year, they have accounted for 25 points for Northeastern (12g, 13a). Sophomore Matt Choupani tallied three goals and two assist for six points in the span of seven games, junior Michael Outzen has collected his first point of the season with an assist on Jakov Novak's game winner against Boston College on Jan. 31. Graduate student Liam Walsh has made big strides for the Huskies since missing the first two months of the season due to injury, having tallied three goals and four assists for seven points in the last seven games.
- MASTER LEVI: Netminder Devon Levi currently ranks number one in Hockey East with 11 conference wins and four conference shutouts against Vermont, New Hampshire, Boston University and Merrimack. Levi continues to sit first overall with a .948 save percentage and 544 saves on the year. Levi is also the active career leader in the NCAA with a .941 save percentage.
Up next, the Huskies will face No. 10 Harvard in the Beanpot Championship game on Monday, Feb. 13 at TD Garden. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
