Huskies Retain Burk Cup in Spring Season Opener

PRINCETON, NJ. – The Northeastern men's rowing team kicked off its spring season strong, earning its fifth-straight Burk Cup win on Sunday morning.

The Huskies have held the Burk Cup since 2016, winning all races held since then. The Cup also has resided at Henderson boathouse in 17 of the last 20 seasons, and 29 of 51 overall.

Graduate student Rhett Burns led the first varsity to an even start, as UPenn kept it close through the first half of the race. The Huskies made a strong push in the second half, and began to pull away and cross the line first at 5:51.95, just under four seconds ahead of the Quakers.
The Huskies went stroke for stroke with the Quakers throughout the entirety of the second varsity race. Stroked by senior Nick Fisher, Northeastern was able to make a push in the second half, and secure a tight win, just 1.23 seconds ahead of the UPenn.
Stroked by senior Felix Braband, Northeastern started off even with the Quakers in the third varsity, but was not able to overcome a push by UPenn down the stretch, and crossed the line at 6:07.99.
In the fourth varsity, the final race of the morning, junior Karim Kane had the Huskies off to a strong start. Northeastern didn't look back throughout the race, increasing its lead to open water in the second half, and finished over 12 seconds ahead of UPenn at 6:14.23.

The Huskies will return home to face Boston University (Arlett Cup) on Saturday, April 1.
