BOSTON - The Northeastern University baseball team (17-4) wraps up a stretch non-conference games with midweek match ups against Central Connecticut (12-3) on the road Tuesday, and Rhode Island (7-11) at home in Brookline on Wednesday. Tuesday's contest is scheduled for 3 p.m., streaming on NEC Front Row, and Wednesday's home game is slated for a 3:05 p.m. first pitch on NESN+ and FloBaseball.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- GRAND FINALE: In Sunday's double header with Hartford, the Huskies found themslves down by three in the bottom of the ninth. A seven run bottom of the ninth, capped off by a Jack Thorbahn walk-off grand slam clinched the series victory for Northeastern, pushing the Huskies to a weekend sweep as they won the following game. Thorbahn's walk off homer was the first at Friedman Diamond since 2015, when Rob Fonseca hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th to beat #15 Charleston on May 14th, 2015.
- CONFERENCE BREAK: The Huskies are wrapping up a string of seven straight non-conference games to open up the 2023 home schedule. So far the Huskies are 14-1 in non-conference play this season, they went 21-15-1 in non-CAA play in 2022, and 15-10 in 2021.
- GOING RAKING: A total of four Huskies are battling above the .350 mark through the first 21 games of the season - the four batters include one returning player, one 2023 transfer, and two true freshmen:Â Danny Crossen (.390, 4 2B, 3B, 4 HR), Cam Maldonado (.390, 3 2B, 3B, 3 HR), Tyler MacGregor (.382, 5 2B, 5 HR) and Carmelo Musacchia (.373, 2 2B, 1 HR). Four more Huskies beneath them are batting above the .300 line, putting NU's total batters over that mark at eight.
The Huskies will return to CAA play this Friday, March 31st, as they head to West Long Branch, New Jersey to face CAA newcomers Monmouth. The three game series kicks off at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon on FloBaseball.
