BOSTON – The Northeastern University baseball team (19-4, 3-3 CAA) resumes CAA play this weekend as the Huskies travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey to face the Monmouth University Hawks (9-12, 2-7) for a weekend series. The series is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 31
st, and continue on Saturday and Sunday.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- HELD IN HIGH REGARD: Three Huskies have been named to positional power rankings by D1 Baseball this past week - starting ace Wyatt Scotti, one of just five D1 pitchers to start 6-0 on the season, was named the 54th best SP in the nation. Danny Crossen was named the 32nd best third-baseman through week six by the publication - his hit streak is now at 21 games after midweek play Out of the bullpen, graduate transfer Griffin Young was named the 32nd best reliever in the NCAA - he has two relief wins for a 2-0 record on the season, and a career-high five saves. Along with the starting pitcher power ranking, Wyatt Scotti (37th) also found himself on their 'Best Strike Throwers' list with fellow Husky Aiven Cabral (4th).
- HOT STREAK, PART II: This is the second seven-game winning streak of the season for Northeastern - their first streak was extended to nine wins as they bounced back from a middle-game walk off loss to UNC Greensboro in the opening series, and didn't lose a regular season game again until the first weekend of conference play. This current streak dates back to last Tuesday's ranked victory over Boston College. After dropping the series finale to NC A&T on that Sunday, the Huskies were perfect in their non-conference home slate, going 6-0 in home games and 7-0 on the week.
- THE BREAK'S OVER: After a perfect seven-game non-conference stretch, the Huskies return to CAA play this weekend. Sitting in sixth place at 3-3, the Huskies have played one less series than the five teams ahead of them in the standings. The Hawks come into the weekend with a 2-7 CAA record, with their two wins coming against UNCW (7-4) and William & Mary (14-12) – both those teams currently in the top four of the league standings.
After this series the Huskies return home for five straight home games beginning with the opening round of the 32
nd Baseball Beanpot. The Huskies host Harvard at Friedman Diamond on Tuesday, April 4
th at 3 p.m. on FloBaseball.
