RICHMOND, Va. - Northeastern University's rookie right-hander
Aiven Cabral has been named a CAA Co-Rookie of the Week for the weekend of March 31st through April 2nd. Cabral, a starting pitcher for the Huskies, earned another in a weekend start, pacing the Huskies to a double header sweep of Monmouth on Friday the 31st.
In game two of the Friday doubleheader, Cabral took the mound to start the contest and kept Monmouth off the scoreboard for six innings - in his second-longest outing of the season (6.0 innings) he allowed just two hits, no runs, no walks, and retired five batters via strikeout. He allowed just three batters to reach base and only one of them made it as far as third base. It was the fourth appearance of the season where he did not allow a run while he was on the mound.
Cabral now sits at a 2.90 ERA (the best among NU starters), a 0.93 WHIP, and a K/BB ratio of 34/2, which ranks fifth in the nation. His 0.57 walks per nine innings is ranked fourth in the nation.
The weekly honor is Northeastern's first rookie recognition of the season and the fourth weekly honor of the season for the Huskies. Cabral is the second pitcher to win a weekly award, with
Wyatt Scotti being named Pitcher of the Week on March 20th.
The Huskies are amidst another five-game home stand starting Tuesday, April 4th with the opening round of the Baseball Beanpot. The Huskies host Havard at 3 p.m., and that game will stream on FloBaseball.
