No. 6 Huskies Have Strong Showing on Day One of the Pac-12 Invitational

FULL RESULTS

REDWOOD SHORES, CA. – The No. 6 Northeastern men's rowing team gave two of the top crews all they can handle as they pushed defending national champion No.1 California and No. 4 Syracuse on day one of the Pac-12 Invitational on Saturday.
  • Stroked by graduate student Rhett Burns, the first varsity eight was off to a clean start with the Golden Bears. After the first few meters, California began to pull ahead right away, leading by three-quarters length. California remained in front, but Northeastern remained within striking distance down the stretch. The Golden Bears held on though, crossing the line at 5:35.0, just less than three seconds ahead of the Huskies at 5:37.9.
  • Stroked by freshman Aidan Murphy, the second varsity eight was off to an even start, going stroke for stroke with the Golden Bears. The Huskies kept it close for most of the first half of the race, and then California made a strong push in the second half, extending its lead to open water, and crossing the line at 5:44.2. Northeastern finished at 5:53.8.
  • In the second varsity race against Syracuse, the Orange got off to a quick start, and the team didn't look back. Syracuse extended its lead to a boat and a half-length into the second half of the race, and crossed the finish line ahead of the Huskies at 5:45.2.
  • In the final race of the day, the first varsity got off to an even start with Syracuse. The Orange though pushed the pace heading into the second half of the race, leading by a boat length. The Huskies fought back to trim the Syracuse advantage down the stretch, but it was not enough as the Orange held on, crossing the line a little over four seconds ahead of the Huskies at 5:33.6.
The Huskies will close out the Pac-12 Invitational against No. 13 Stanford on Sunday. Races are slated for 12:20 pm ET (V8) and 12:50 pm ET (2V8).
