BOSTON - The Northeastern Huskies (41-12) open up CAA Tournament play this Wednesday, May 24th as the third seed in the field, facing off with the sixth-seeded William & Mary Tribe (32-23) at 4 p.m. at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The game will be broadcast on FloBaseball and WRBB 104.9 FM.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- TOP DOGS IN THE CONFERENCE: Northeastern received 14 honors as the CAA announced its 2023 regular season awards on Tuesday afternoon, highlighted by Rookie of the Year Cam Maldonado, Defensive Player of the Year, Spenser Smith, Coach of the Year Mike Glavine, and 11 All-Conference selections. The Huskies last won three major awards in the 2021 season en route to a tournament title.
- SO WE MEET AGAIN: The Huskies face the Tribe in the opening round of the CAA Tournament for the second straight tourney, with the Huskies as the five seed upending the fourth-seeded Tribe 3-2 last May. Earlier this month the two teams faced off in the regular season at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, Va. The Tribe came from behind twice to take games two and three from the Huskies, winning the regular season series for the second straight season.
- SWITCHING GEARS: The Huskies have made the CAA Championship Game in three of the previous four tournaments, winning in 2021 and claiming second place in 2018 and 2022. Northeastern enters the 2023 double-elimination tournament with a 20-21 overall CAA Tournament record, are 3-2 in Championship Games, and a 16-10 record in elimination games.
The winner of Wednesdays contests will move on to face either #1 UNCW or #2 Elon on Thursday afternoon and evening. The tournament's first elimination game will take place Thursday morning featuring the two losing sides of #3 Northeastern vs. #6 William & Mary, and the early Wednesday matchup of #4 College of Charleston, the host program, against #5 Delaware.
