TUSCON, Ariz. - Northeastern University freshman outfielder
Cam Maldonado has been named to the 2023
Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American team, powered by Diamond Sports, the organization announced Wednesday morning.
Maldonado led the Huskies offensively in the 2023 season, finishing the year with a team-high .353 batting average and 32 stolen bases on 33 attempts. He broke the program's rookie home run record with 13 in his first season, and tallied five triples and 13 doubles for 45 RBI on the year. He completed a cycle in April against UMass going 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, and a homer. He was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year, as well as earning All-Conference First Team, All-Rookie, and All-Tournament honors in the postseason.
The Huskies ranked in the top 50 in the NCAA in batting average, and top 10 in stolen bases on the year. Cam's 32 stolen bases were a part of the team's 133 total stolen bases on the year, the second-most in program history behind the 1991 team that stole 145. Maldonado on his own led the CAA in individual stolen bases, 40th in the NCAA.
