DEDHAM, Mass. — Four separate players found the back of the cage as the Northeastern Huskies field hockey team (5-6, 1-1 CAA) concluded its three-game homestand with its first CAA win of the season, taking a 4-1 victory over the William & Mary Tribe (0-11, 0-2 CAA) on Friday afternoon's Cancer Awareness Game.
- After a goalless first quarter, the Huskies struck home the opening goal after senior Lara Taylor cleaned up graduate student Lauren Rowe's first attempt, tapping in the bounding ball to take a 1-0 lead.
- Northeastern doubled its lead through a beautifully worked penalty corner set piece, where graduate student Caroline Sweeney and senior Maria Armaganian linked up a chain of passes before Rowe slotted one into the bottom right corner. The Huskies would keep a 2-0 advantage going into halftime.
- At 5:11 in the third, a broken corner that was kept alive by senior India Cotter and Rowe found the stick of senior Lilly Smith, who deflected one into the upper right corner to score the hosts' third of the game and Smith's second of the season.
- William & Mary grabbed its first of the contest on a breakaway down the left wing before squaring one to the middle of the circle and finishing it to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- Northeastern reclaimed a three-goal advantage through graduate student Mak Graves after the Tribe goalkeeper's knee pad save from sophomore Alex Mega bounced right in front of the forward, who calmly scored to seal a 4-1 win for the Huskies.
- Rowe and Graves led the Huskies with three points each, followed by Taylor and Smith with two, and M. Armaganian with one.
- Rowe's lone assist on Friday tied her for fifth all-time in career assists in Northeastern field hockey history, with former player and coach Shelly Morris, making it 37 total assists in her career.
Northeastern is back on the road for a contest with the New Hampshire Wildcats (5-6, 2-0 AE) on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. The contest will be available to stream on ESPN+.
