Northeastern Track And Field Kicks Off Indoor Season With Three Meets

BOSTON, Mass. — The Northeastern men's and women's teams prepare for the start of their 2024-25 season, beginning with the UConn Husky Challenge, hosted by UConn, on Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Hugh S. Greer Field House. The women's Huskies will then feature in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at BU Track and Tennis Center on Saturday, Dec. 7, before the Joe Donahue Games on Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Track at New Balance. The event will kick off at 4 p.m., and admission will be $10 at the front door.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. LAST SEASON RECAP – Northeastern established itself as one of the nation's best track and field programs last season, as they swept the men's and women's CAA Indoor Championships for the first time since 2018. The Huskies totaled 22 medals across the championships weekend, including a Most Outstanding Track Performer Award for senior Ben Godish, who picked up two medals after winning the 1 mile and 3000M.
  2. SCOUTING THE WOMEN – Freshman Madison Phillips will represent Northeastern at the UConn Husky Challenge, competing in the Hugh Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, Long Jump, and 800M. Following Thursday, graduate students Azza Borovicka-SwansonAva Duggan, and Abby Hassman will be representing the women in the distance events at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Duggan will be competing in the 1 mile, Borovicka-Swanson will take on the 3000M, and Hassman will close out with the 5000M. All three slotted themselves in the top ten all-time program marks in Northeastern track & field history last year, with Hassman breaking her own Northeastern record in the 5K.
  3. TRANSITIONING TO THE TRACK—The Huskies are transitioning from another successful cross country season, during which Godish and Hassman added another individual CAA Championship to their accolades, along with the women's first-ever CAA Cross Country team championship. The women competing at the NCAA Northeast Cross Country Regionals took sixth overall, while the men's team took 17th out of 38 competing teams.

The Huskies will be off next month for winter break. The next meet is the UMass Flagship Indoor Invitational, hosted by UMass. It takes place on Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Track at New Balance.
