NEW YORK CITY — Led by a 1-2 finish in the women's pentathlon by fifth year

Kennedee Cox, the Northeastern track and field team picked up eight medals on the first day of the CAA Championships at The Armory. Both squads finished the session with a lead on the rest of the conference.
Biron finished with 3,956 points to repeat as the CAA champion in the pentathlon, picking up individual wins in the long jump with a 6.08m mark and the 800m with a time of 2:21.61. She also won the silver medal in the regular long jump, reaching 6.11 meters, her best mark of the season. She will also have a shot at a medal in the 60m hurdles after qualifying for the final with a time of 8.67 seconds.
After day one, the Northeastern men's team owns 47 points and a three-point lead on Monmouth, while the women's squad has 49 points and a five-point lead on the Elon Phoenix.
FIELD EVENTS
- Cox won the pentathlon shot put with a distance of 11.94m and finished second in the long jump, right behind Biron, hitting a mark of 5.56m.
- Junior Athanasios Pantazopoulos picked up a silver medal in the pole vault, eclipsing 4.75m-high bar.
- Senior Nicholas Pisciotta had an impressive day as a weight thrower, tossing his implement 18.86m to win gold and set a new meet and personal record. That is also the 10th-best mark in Northeastern history.
TRACK EVENTS
- Senior Abigail Hassman repeated as the champion in the women's 5K, blazing to a win at a clip of 15:59.22, 26 seconds faster than any other finisher. She broke her own meet record.
- The men's distance medley relay team of Ryan Gruczka, Joseph Thumann, Johnny Emmanuel and Kyle Sarney took over the lead in the waning laps to claim a gold medal after finishing in 9:57.17.
- Senior Patrick Cullen ran the 5000m in 14:06.01, finishing in second and grabbing a silver medal.
- Junior Ethan Exilhomme broke his own school record in the 60m dash, finishing in 6.68 seconds and qualifying for the final Friday afternoon. He also qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles after crossing the line at 8.08 seconds.
- Freshman Savannah Blair won her heat of the 200m in 24.12 seconds, setting a personal best and moving into third on the All-Time Indoor Performance List.
The Huskies are right back at it Friday morning as they begin with the women's high jump at 10:30 and roll right into a full day of events at the 2024 CAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
