Musacchia's Walk-Off Completes NU's Comeback Against Bryant

BROOKLINE, Mass. – It came down to the ninth inning, but the Northeastern Huskies (10-4) came from behind to beat the Bryant Bulldogs (5-9) in walk-off fashion by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.

After an early 4-0 deficit, the Huskies' bullpen held Bryant off the scoreboard for the final seven innings, allowing the offense to chip away at the lead, eventually tying the game in the sixth and walking off in the ninth on a Carmelo Musacchia infield single. Mike Sirota led the offense with four hits on the day, just a homer short of the cycle.

  • After neither side got much offense in the first, Bryant exploded onto the scoreboard with a trio of free bases followed by a grand slam to lead 4-0.
  • Third baseman Jack Goodman responded in the bottom of the second with lead off solo shot over the left-center field scoreboard to cut into the lead, 4-1.
  • The Huskies threatened again in the fourth, loading the bases with just one out, but Bryant snuffed out the rally.
  • Mike Sirota hit a two-out RBI triple in the fifth to cut into the lead, but the subsequent loading of the bases following Sirota was once again snuffed out and Huskies were stranded on all bases.
  • The Huskies tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth on two solo shots from Matt Brinker and Cam Maldonado.
  • The Huskies loaded the bases for a third time in the bottom of the ninth, and with two outs it was Carmelo Musacchia hitting an infield single off the pitcher's mound, scoring Tyler MacGregor from third for the win.
  • The bullpen effort of Cooper McGrath (2.2, 1H, 0BB, 1K), Charlie Walker (2.2, 0H, 0BB, 3K) and Jack Beauchesne (2H, 0BB, 1K) combined to shutout the Bulldogs after the second inning, giving the bats time to catch up. Beauchesne earned his second relief win as he slammed the door, stranding two runners on in the top of the ninth.
