BROOKLINE, Mass. – In game one of their weekend series, the Northeastern Huskies (11-4) defeated the Rhode Island Rams (2-11) by a score of 15-4 on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
Northeastern got huge offensive performances, with third baseman
Jack Goodman hitting for the cycle and
Alex Lane bringing in six RBIs. Catcher
Gregory Bozzo added a pair of RBIs in a 3-for-5 afternoon, and first baseman
Tyler MacGregor added a multi-hit day with an RBI late in the game. Goodman also collected an unassisted inning-ending double play in an error-less day at third base.
- After a Rhode Island solo shot in the first inning, Northeastern responded by hanging five on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame. After the first three hitters for Northeastern reached on walks, Alex Lane notched a two-RBI single and Jack Goodman belted a three-run home run to lead 5-1.
- Rhode Island grabbed another run in the top of the second on an RBI single, but Alex Lane responded again with another RBI single up the middle to bring the lead back up to four.
- After a Gregory Bozzo solo shot in the third to lead 6-1, the Huskies poured it on in the fourth with a seven-run, seven-hit inning to lead 14-2. It was kicked off once again by Lane with a three-run home run, followed by a Mussachia RBI double, and RBI singles by Bozzo, Beckstein, and Tyler MacGregor.
- The Rams Notched two runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 14-4 but the Huskies extended the lead back over 10 in the seventh – Jack Goodman completed his cycle with a triple to right-center field, and Justin Bosland hit him home on the RBI single up the middle.
- Starter Jake Gigliotti worked the opening five innings allowing four runs on six hits, and striking out six.
- Working the sixth was Brendan McFall, his second appearance of the week, allowing just one hit and no runs in his one inning of work.
- Freshman Nick Coniglio made his collegiate debut, working the seventh inning and notching his first career strikeout as he put another zero on the scoreboard.
- The eighth and ninth belonged to James Quinlivan and James Morice, respectively – Quinlivan notched two K's in a perfect eighth inning, and Morice allowed just one baserunner in the ninth on a walk, getting the last out of the game with his first strikeout of the year.
- Goodman's cycle is Northeastern's second in as many seasons – both of those came from a player in their debut season with the Huskies after Cam Maldonado collected a five-hit cycle in 2023 as a rookie.
- Lane has now hit six RBIs in two games this season - three in his career as a Husky.
- It's Northeastern's first win to open a three-game series this season. The Huskies are now 2-2 in games played on Friday.
