PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Northeastern University blueliner
Hunter McDonald has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, the team announced Monday morning.
Despite an early-season injury, McDonald played a crucial role for Northeastern's defensive core, appearing in 23 games for the Huskies this year. The New York native posted one goal and five assists for six points, recording his first point of the year in his first game back on the ice. McDonald added 52 blocked shots during the 2023-24 campaign, the second-best mark overall on the Huskies' roster.
The 6-4 defenseman finished his collegiate career appearing in 58 games with 20 points from two goals and 18 assists. In two years, he tallied 146 blocks and a plus-25 rating. At the conclusion of his freshman season, McDonald ranked second in the NCAA with 94 blocks and lead all Hockey East skaters with 65 blocks.
Additionally, he helped see Northeastern to back-to-back Beanpot titles, was named to the 2023 Hockey East All-Rookie team, and was named the 2023 Hockey East Best Defensive Defenseman, becoming the first-ever freshman to receive the honor.
McDonald is yet another Husky from the 2023-24 roster to sign with an NHL organization this post-season.
